This guide is intended to orient the user to selected resources for the study of the Bible at  Harvard Divinity School Library and in online resources licensed by the Harvard Library. It is written for Harvard library users and non-Harvard users interested in the type of information we can provide. It includes finding biblical texts, scholarly commentary in books and articles, and additional sources of information (atlases, concordances, and dictionaries).

Dictionary of the Bible

With entries ranging from earthquakes and mice to feminism and the Dead Sea Scrolls, this dictionary is a lively and absorbing reference work for all readers of the Bible. Authoritative, accessible, and up-to-date, it provides helpful information about the books of the Bible, customs, religions and worship, history, and theology, important places, and personalities. Providing clear explanations of technical terms, methods of interpretation, and critical analysis, as well as notes on leading biblical scholars and their contributions, it is also concerned with denominational interpretations of the themes and doctrine of the Bible. Encyclopedia of Ancient History

Online version of a 13-volume reference work, with 5000 entries ranging from 250-5000 words, written and edited by an internationally diverse team of editors and contributors. Its content spans the late Bronze Age through the seventh century CE and covers the entire ancient Mediterranean world including the Near East and Egypt. The online version features regular revisions and new entries.

Old Testament Abstracts

OTA contains abstracts (i.e short summaries) of articles, books, and software related to the study of the Hebrew Bible. Content from over 450 journals is covered.
