San Francisco Chronicle (1865-1922)

The San Francisco Chronicle has been one of the leading newspapers in America since its founding in 1865. Its pages provide a record of westward expansion, including completion of the transcontinental railroad, the Klondike gold rush, and the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire. It also includes coverage of the burgeoning arts scene in San Francisco, the politics of a young, quickly growing U.S. city and access to articles from famous writers such as Mark Twain, Bret Harte, Jack London and Rex Beach.
