If there is no special collection designation, the item is in the regular Library of Congress ('LC') collection:

  • A-BS1899: Level G
  • BS1900-BX9999: Level L
  • C-Z: Old stack wing level 2L

Folio

Volumes in the LC collection that are larger than 11' but smaller than 14' are designated Folio and are located:

  • Folio A-BS1899 : Level G
  • Folio BS1900-BX9999: Level L
  • Folio C-Z: Old stack wing level 2L

Port.

Volumes in the LC collection that are 14' or larger are called portfolio and are designated Port. They are located on level G.

OLD DIV, OLD DIV folio

For items in the OLD DIV(inity) alphabetic classification (OLD DIV A-Z; OLD DIV folio A-Z), ask at the circulation desk.

Ref., Ref. folio, Atlas Stand, Ref. CD-ROM

Books with the designations Ref., Ref. folio, or Atlas Stand are located in the Houghton Reference Room on the second floor. Ref. folios are shelved in the center shelves on the other side of the HOLLIS PCs. Our small Ref. CD-ROM collection is available Monday through Friday by appointment with a research librarian.

Period.: Current issues

Periodicals from the most recent year, with the designation 'Current issues: Periodicals Reading Room,' are located in the Periodicals Reading Room on the first floor. For current issues of titles with the designation 'Current issues in Periodicals Reading Room File Cabinets,' find the appropriate filing cabinet in same area.

Period.: Older/Bound issues

Older bound issues of periodicals are located:

  • Period. 10-1732.7 and Folio Period. 27.7-3058: Old stack wing level 1
  • Period 1732.7-3555: Old stack wing level G

Harvard Depository

For items designated Andover-Harv. Theol.: Harvard Depository

  • Check the circulation availability. If there is a 'request' link and if you have a regular Harvard ID and PIN number, follow the link to have it sent to the library.
  • If 'request' is not available or if you do not have a regular Harvard ID, ask at the circulation desk.

These items are generally available within one working day. For older/bound periodical volumes with the designation 'located at Harvard Depository,' fill out a request form at the circulation desk.

Items designated Mfiche, Mfiche ATLA, Mfiche Period., Mflm., Mflm. Period., Mflm. Unit. are located in the Microform Reading Room near the reference desk on the second floor. For assistance, please see the reference or circulation staff. Paper copies are 10¢ per page.

Items designated Media (videocassettes, DVDs, and CDs) and Media Cassette (audiocassettes) are on shelves in the microforms room on the second floor. Ask at the circulation desk for items designated as Media Kits.

Ms., bMS, Archives

Items designated as Ms., bMS, or Archives are available only after consultation with the curator of manuscripts and archives. See Manuscripts and Archives: Requesting Services for more information.
