Lucy Clark Ware Allen (1791-1866) was the oldest surviving child of Henry and Mary Clark Ware. She married [Joseph Allen](/exhibits/featured-images/allen-joseph) in 1818. She was active in the life of the home, church, and town. Joseph and Lucy Allen had seven children. Two sons, Joseph Henry (1820-98) and Thomas Prentiss (1822-68) became Unitarian ministers.

A memorial tablet placed in the church in Northborough describes Lucy Allen:

> of serene, patient, and cheerful spirit,
> in daily life humble, scrupulous, self-denying,
> of deep conviction in matters of public right,
> of thoughtful loving-kindness to the poor and suffering.
