The Library During the Renewal of Swartz Hall

August 30, 2019

The library is open regular hours during the renovation.   To accommodate the construction, we made a few changes inside the building.  Following are details to help you organize your work for minimal disruption:

Temporary Entrance: For the duration of construction, our entrance is directly across from Vanserg Hall off the Francis Avenue parking lot.  See Directions, Map.  Tap your Harvard ID to gain entrance. Those without a Harvard ID must show a photo ID and sign in with the Securitas guard.

Circulation desk: Pick up and check out library materials at the first floor desk as usual —one floor up from the temporary entrance.

Noise: At times, the construction work will be noisy. The library has noise-mitigating headsets that you can check out.  Staff can advise you on alternative study spaces in the vicinity, or use Find a Space to identify the perfect library space for your needs at any hour. Filters include features like noise level, furniture type, and locker availability.

Collections: In order to accommodate the school’s need to repurpose some of the library’s stack space, more materials have been moved to permanent offsite storage than has been typical in the past. Offsite materials can be recalled through HOLLIS and delivered to the Harvard library of your choice.

Most of our special collections (rare books, archives, etc.) have been moved offsite temporarily but can be requested and used in the library during construction.  To use materials, please request materials at least two days in advance of your visit.

Thank you for your patience and support during this process. If you have any questions, please Ask us.
