Allen, Lucy Clark

Allen, Lucy - full

Lucy Clark Ware Allen (1791-1866) was the oldest surviving child of Henry and Mary Clark Ware. She married Joseph Allen in 1818. She was active in the life of the home, church, and town. Joseph and Lucy Allen had seven children. Two sons, Joseph Henry (1820-98) and Thomas Prentiss (1822-68) became Unitarian ministers.

A memorial tablet placed in the church in Northborough describes Lucy Allen:

of serene, patient, and cheerful spirit,
in daily life humble, scrupulous, self-denying,
of deep conviction in matters of public right,
of thoughtful loving-kindness to the poor and suffering.
