Harry Lee ("Hal") Canfield (1860-1942), son of Harry Lovell Canfield, was ordained as a Universalist minister in 1888. He served churches in Cincinnati, Ohio (1891-93), Dover, Maine (1898-1902), Woodstock, Vermont. (1902-06; 1909-13), Owatonna, Minnesota (1906-1908), and various churches in North Carolina (1919-1936) under the auspices of the Women's National Missionary Association. From 1894 to 1898, he was National Secretary of the Young People's Christian Union, and, with his wife, Mary Grace Canfield, editor of Onward. Like his father, he and Mary Grace collected photographs and annotated his and those of his father; many of the photographs in bMS 900 and other collections here are from him.
